Vegan Week: DAY 1

I have just entered a bet with some of my friends here in NOLA.

One of us is an extremely skinny guy--Dylan, for the purpose of this blog--who, according to the bet, must wear extremely baggy clothing for one full week.
On the other end, however, 2 others--James and Hayden--and myself must go vegan for the duration of the same week. If the 3 of us fail, said skinny man (Dylan) will no longer have to wear baggy clothing. Also, anyone who drops out of vegan week must go throughout the rest of the week with FAIL written on their forehead in permanent marker (sharpie).

What is Vegan?
Dictionary.com puts it simply: a vegetarian who omits all animal products from the diet.
No meat, no cheese, no eggs, no salad dressing, no mayonnaise, no cake, no milk, no honey..the list goes on.

This week's vegans prepared against torturous starvation with a Sunday trip to the local Whole Foods Market. I think everyone grabbed hummus and pita bread. I myself grabbed some corn chips and salsa, in addition. James went for soy milk (though it should be noted that not all soy milk is vegan).

I will log out the week with what I have eaten for each day, and any other notable occurrences.

On today's menu:

FOR LUNCH
SALAD: Spinach, Lettuce, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, Olives, Chick Peas, NO DRESSING
SANDWICH: Wheat Roll, Tofu, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Pickles
APPLE
TATER TOTS
ORANGE JUICE

FOR DINNER
SALAD: Spinach, Tomatoes, Carrots, Mushrooms, Olives, Oil+Vinegar
SANDWICH: Wheat Roll, Tofu, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Pickles, Onions, Oil+Vinegar
1 BOWL CHEERIOS (NO MILK)
1 BOWL KIX (NO MILK)

I might snack later in the night. If I do it will be Hummus and Pita bread.

Today Dylan wore baggier clothes than usual, and it was moderately humorous. He did not wear the baggiest clothes available, but those are yet to come (and I hope to upload a few pictures soon)!

I haven't necessarily felt The Hunger today. When I mention The Hunger I am referring to the insatiable thirst for meat. I have felt hungry today, but have yet to feel a need for meat. I can't deny that the food sucks right now--trying to keep vegan in the University Cafeteria. But I can maintain so far.

Sometimes I reallllllly just want some ribs. Some tasty meat.

This is an interesting "challenge" though, I'm intrigued to know if there is any point in the week if you feel as if you really want some meat..

Oh hey. You should also weigh yourself...you don't necessarily have to tell "us" (blog readers) and just say whether you lost any weight..or gained? Maybe you might be eating more to make up for the loss of not eating meat perhaps. Anyways I'm interested (:

Wow what a great idea!.. Although I don't know if the bet is completely even. Haha.

I think as long as you keep your diet high in protein, you won't really notice too much of a difference.

Good luck!

By "the hunger," are you referring to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
